Accessibility statement
Built for keyboards, screen readers, small screens, slow connections and automated agents. If something is in your way, tell us and we will fix it.
SmallBay Digital LLP wants everyone to be able to read this site, use the forms and reach us, whatever device, assistive technology or software they use. This page says what we have done, how we check it, and what we have not finished yet.
Standard
We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. Where we can meet a level AAA criterion without harming the design, such as the contrast of body text, we do.
What is in place
- Every page has one main landmark, a skip link to it, a header, a footer and labelled navigation regions.
- Headings run in order. Links say where they go without the surrounding text.
- All text, buttons and icons meet a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 against their background.
- Everything works with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus ring. Menus close on Escape and return focus.
- Every image has alternative text that says what is in it, or is marked decorative. Photographs carry captions and credits.
- Forms have visible labels, autocomplete hints, inline errors that are announced to screen readers, and no time limits.
- Nothing flashes. Animation is switched off when your system asks for reduced motion.
- Text can be resized to 200% and the page reflows down to 320px wide without horizontal scrolling.
- Touch targets are at least 24 by 24 CSS pixels.
- Pages render without JavaScript. Scripts only add convenience.
- The site works in Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Edge, and with VoiceOver, NVDA and TalkBack.
For software and agents
Automated readers are users too. Every page carries structured data in JSON-LD, a plain-text index lives at /llms.txt, the full content is at /llms-full.txt, every blog post is available as Markdown by adding .md to its address, and the sitemap is at /sitemap-index.xml. AI crawlers are allowed in robots.txt.
How we test
- Automated checks with axe-core on every template before it goes live, at desktop and phone widths.
- Keyboard-only walkthroughs of the navigation, the contact form and the cookie banner.
- Screen-reader passes with VoiceOver on macOS and iOS.
- Colour contrast checked at the token level, so a passing colour stays passing everywhere it is used.
Known limitations
- Some older pages still use an earlier design and are being moved to the current one. They work, but spacing and focus styles may differ.
- PDF downloads were produced before this statement and have not all been tagged for screen readers. Ask us and we will send the content as text.
- The booking calendar is provided by Cal.com. We have chosen it for its accessibility support, but we do not control it.
